Hur införandet av miljöpolicys påverkar politikers väljarstöd

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Statsvetenskapliga institutionen

Sammanfattning: The thesis aims to analyze the effect of environmental policies on the electoral support of governing parties in Sweden. The study turns around the classical question of what effects environmental policies have on the environment, and asks instead what the government can expect regarding support by voters when implementing an environmental policy. The study uses a Difference-in-Differences approach with a data set from monthly opinion polls in Sweden. The method is one of its kind that sets out to measure such an effect and is therefore exploratory. The results show change in government support when implementing an environmental policy, but with no significance in the Difference-in-Differences estimator. Since there are no comparable studies the thesis makes a methodological contribution in developing an approach to measure policies through quantitative causal inference and leaves a contribution for further studies.
