Sammanfattning: Aim and research questions The purpose of this study is to investigate teachers' attitudes towards students who have an ethnic background other than Swedish. What positive and negative attitudes do the students experience? How are students affected by teachers' attitudes? How are teachers' attitudes towards students expressed? Theory & Method The method used in this study is a semi-structured interview where six respondents have chosen to participate, three respondents from two different high schools. The method in the study follows guidelines that are source-critical and quality-assured in order to increase the study's validity and reliability. The study also works with a thematic analysis to organize the content. The theory used is Henri Tajfel's (2010) social identity theory, which creates understanding during the discussion. The study uses six students as respondents. Results The result shows a varied outcome. Several students agree that there are negative attitudes towards students with an ethnic background other than Swedish, but there are also statements that show positive attitudes. The results show that attitudes are expressed in several different ways, both verbally but also physically, etc. The results also show that attitudes have an impact on how the students perform but also on the schooling. Conclusions In conclusion, we can summarize that students with an ethnic background other than Swedish actually experience attitudes from teachers and other staff at the school. We also note that ethnic background above all plays a role in the occurrence of negative attitudes. These attitudes affect students individually. Finally, the study can also state based on the students' statements that teachers who have greater experience with people with a different ethnic background than their own show a greater understanding of differences.
