Sammanfattning: This study examines Swedish teachers' opinions on the division between high and low in literature and how Swedish teachers view the canon discussion in relation to the concepts of high and low. The empirical material has been collected through nine qualitative interviews where all the respondents were trained Swedish teachers active in upper secondary school. The method has had a phenomenographic approach as we intend to investigate the views of the phenomenon high and low. The result has been interpreted based on Pierre Bourdieu's theories of fields, habitus, and cultural capital. The results show that the majority of teachers make a division between high and low literature and that the criteria for high literary works are based on their aesthetics and institutional and sociological value. Teachers prefer to use low works to introduce reading and are positive about a canon discussion, but generally do not want to see an established canon in the Swedish education system.
