Sammanfattning: Background: Mental illness accounts for almost half of sickness absence in Sweden, of which most cases are due to stress-related illness. Occupational therapy interventions are an option for individuals with stress-related illness as they may be in need of changes that can promote a good activity balance. Aim: To explore the effects of occupational therapy interventions in primary care for adults with stress-related illness. Method: A general literature review was conducted with a deductive approach and systematic selection to explore quantative and qualitative studies. Data collection was carried out in the databases CINAHL, PsycInfo and PubMed. The search resulted in 12 articles that are presented based on the main concepts in the Model of Human Occupation: volition, habituation, performance skills and environment. Result: Occupational therapy interventions gave participants motivation, an inner strength and a desire to change everyday life. Participants were able to move on and face challenges in everyday life that had previously been experienced as difficult. They gained increased knowledge about prioritizing and planning activities that were health-promoting. Conclusion: The interventions showed positive results and can be a good option for individuals with stress-related illness. More research on the interventions in other cultural contexts should be applied in order to provide stronger evidence strength and basis.
