Sammanfattning: This thesis examines employment protection in cases of alcohol abuse in Sweden. The goal is to highlight what questions are raised in cases of alcoholism at the workplace. I especially focus on workplaces where the security issues are of special importance. In the thesis, I will report on the employment protection enjoyed by employees under the current legislation, and how it takes the interests of the employee into account. I use the four accepted sources of law in Sweden: legislation, preparatory works, case law and works by legal scholars. The study shows that the employment protection is generally taking the employees’ interests into account to an acceptable degree. However, this varies between different employments. The work tasks and the size of the workplace are two major factors that affect the length of the employment protection. The results can largely be explained by the special problems alcohol abuse creates on certain kinds of workplaces.
