Sammanfattning: The usage of drones in civilian applications is a relatively new phenomenon, earlier it was limited to military applications. As drones gain more and more popularity is it imperative that care is taken to implement drones in a manner that will be beneficial. While there is an abundance of technical studies being conducted about testing drones’ technical attributes there is a lack of studies that investigates how and where to implement these attributes. This study aims to answer the question of how drones and the technologies surrounding them can be used to elevate emergency services ability to collect information about emergency situations and cooperate with unmanned aerial systems, and how to best implement these technologies. As a result, a number of guidelines were constructed and promising technical areas where identified that can help alleviate some of the difficulties faced by emergency services in the field. The data collected points to drones needing to be fast and capable of long-range flight beyond line of sight. Artificial intelligence is likely necessary to reduce stress and manpower needed to utilize drones. The information that is utilized in emergency services is of different value to different branches but there are some common denominators.
