Benämningen ”idrott” prägel på skolämnet Idrott och hälsa

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study is to investigate the relevance of the term sport in the course term sports and health. Question that this study aims to answer is: What content has been relevant to the subject and what was the purpose of it? What is nowdays relevant to the subject “idrott (Physical education)”? To what grade is the word idrott relevant to the subject? To answer the purpose and questions of this study a discourse analysis is used, more precisely Fairclough’s three dimensional analysis model. The discourse consists of literature that is mapped and narrowed down by relevance. Furthermore the discourse is limited to two comprehensive books that deal with the school subject curricula and definition of “idrott (sport)”. The books that are in focis is Idrott och hälsa year 2007 by Håkan Larsson and Fysisk bildning year 2000 by Jan-Eric Ekberg and Bodil Erberth. The advantage of the method is that it includes and systematically facilitates an analysis of the discourse through a theoretical perspective. The theoretical perspective that is used in this study is “performativitetsteorin (performativity theory)”, the theory helps the understanding of how social change takes place. The subject “idrott och hälsa” has been through many name changes and the result shows that all the name changes shows a significant explanation of the origin of the name. The study prove that the emphasis in the curriculum has shifted focus from the practical skills to more theoretical and health related knowledge. The paradox is that the study shows that P.E teachers are not putting correlative importance in the theoretical aspects of the education. Analyzed with the “performativitetsteorin” it can be stated that in this way, old habits remain within the subject. Finally: The answer of if the subject “idrott” has any relevance to the education is answered by “it depends on the definition of “idrott”. The conclusion is that the name of the school subject should be reviewed if the definition of sports should be equivalent to the content of the latest curriculum.
