"En har mer respekt för tjejer". En kvalitativ intervjustudie med bi- och pansexuella kvinnor och icke-binära: om mononormativitet, genus och relationer, med ett ödmjukt anspråk på ett möte mellan queerteori och lesbisk feminism

Sammanfattning: The purpose of the thesis is threefold: first, through experiences of bi- and pansexuality among women and non-binary persons, the aim is to deconstruct the mononormative opposition of hetero/homo. Second, the thesis aims to seek deeper understanding about how the sexualities among the participants in different ways affect their views on and experiences of relationships and their dating life, where gender specifically is an interesting axis of analysis. Third, through the analysis of the material of the study, the aim is to establish a theoretical meeting between queer theory and lesbian feminism. A qualitative interview method has been used. Through the experiences of the seven participants of the study, it finds five key themes regarding being bi- or pansexual: to not be taken seriously, to be read as promiscuous and untrustworthy, to be invisible, to have one’s sexual position fragmented; and the need for safe space. Second, the participants of the study express a greater deal of respect for women and non-binary persons than for men in their dating life. There also seems to be a connection between the participants’ sexualities and their views on relationships in general; highlighting the need of deconstructing the opposition between friendship and intimacy/romance. Therefore, the study argues that respect can be seen as having a subversive potential, and challenges the premises of what defines intimate/romantic relationships – establishing a theoretical meeting between queer theory and lesbian feminism.
