  1. 1. Spatial downscaling of gridded soil moisture products using optical and thermal satellite data: the effects of using different vegetation indices

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Tómas Halldórsson Alexander; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Remote Sensing; Soil moisture; Downscaling; Vegetation index; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Soil moisture (SM) plays an important role in the exchange of heat and water between the surface and atmosphere, impacting water and energy cycles and the climate. Satellite remote sensing offers a global-scale estimation of SM; however, the coarse resolutions of satellite SM products, typically ranging from 25-50 km, are unsuitable for regional analysis. 2. 2. Monitoring wetland cover changes during the past two decades within the protected areas of the Sudd wetland in South Sudan using MODIS data

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Charlotta Ruuskanen; [2021]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem analysis; MODIS; NDVI; Sudd Wetlands; Wetland Cover Classification; White Nile Hydrology; Armed Herder-Pastoralist Conflict analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The Sudd wetland, situated along the White Nile in the Republic of South Sudan, is recognized internationally for its unique environmental features. The distinctive ecological characteristics have resulted in the creation of numerous nature reserves in efforts to conserve the habitats and ecosystem services provided. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Change of heating fuel consumption patterns produced by the economic crisis in Greece

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Panagiotis Patrinos; [2021]
    Nyckelord :geography; GIS; atmospheric pollution; Greece; household heating systems; heating fuel; economic Crisis; air Quality; satellite data; virtual stations; regression analysis; air pollutants mapping; anthropogenic factors; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The economic crisis in Greece resulted in a change in residential heating fuels utilized, which in turn resulted in a change of air quality over Greater Athens Area. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of economic crisis in air quality over Attica by examining the change in air pollutants’ concentrations before, during, and after the onset of the economic crisis in Greece and to associate this change with the change in fuels used for residential heating. 4. 4. Vegetation phenology derived using the plant phenology index and the normalized difference vegetation index for the Balkan peninsula, south-eastern Europe

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Aleksandra Ivanova; [2019]
    Nyckelord :physical geography; ecosystem analysis; phenology; vegetation; climate change; remote sensing; plant phenology index; PPI; timesat; Balkan peninsula; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This study analyses the performance of the satellite derived Plant Phenology Index (PPI) against the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) for estimating start of season (SOS) and end of season (EOS) of vegetation growth in part of the Balkan Peninsula, Southeastern Europe (2000 – 2016). Results revealed that PPI and NDVI differ considerably; SOS and EOS may diverge by more than one month between the two indices. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Fjällbjörkmätarlarvers påverkan på fjällbjörkskog : en fjärranalysstudie om markvegetationsförhållanden i subalpin miljö

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Melvin Moon; [2018]
    Nyckelord :Fjärranalys; NDVI; fjällbjörkmätare; Abisko; fjällbjörkskog; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Since the mid-1950s, studies have frequently been conducted on couplings between geometrid moth outbreaks and mountain birch, though not nearly as much focus has been on connections between geometrid moth outbreaks and ground cover. Previous studies have shown that major outbreaks of Epirrita autumnata occur in 9 – 10-year cycles (Karlsson et al. LÄS MER
