  1. 1. Genetic consequences of translocations in the Doñana population of the endangered Iberian lynx

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Gaia Mora; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Conservation Genetics; Iberian lynx conservation; endangered species; species conservation;

    Sammanfattning : Conservation genetics for endangered species is crucial in long-term conservation actions.Inbreeding depression and genetic diversity are main genetic parameters with relevance toconservation. The Iberian lynx was by 2002 the most endangered felid in the world. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Estimating Variant Intolerance for Genes of Cattle

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Simon Lanigan; [2024]
    Nyckelord :Genes; Cattle;

    Sammanfattning : Cattle play a crucial role in providing nutrition and economic stability worldwide. Threats to their health, particularly infectious diseases, and genetic mutations, can have profound implications for both animal and human livelihoods. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Analysis of relatedness and genetic diversity in Swedish sheep breeds using medium density (50K) SNP data

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Krishani Devika Wijesinghe Sinhalage; [2023]
    Nyckelord :sheep; genetic diversity; population structure; inbreeding; runs of homozygosity; coat colour; MC1R;

    Sammanfattning : The local Swedish sheep breeds belong to a group of sheep breeds known as North European short-tailed sheep breeds. Evaluation of genetic diversity, relatedness, and population structure of local breeds offers crucial metrics to prevent inbreeding depression, genetic erosion, and crossbreeding between locally adapted and exotic sheep breeds since these occurrences can have detrimental effects and ultimately lead to extinction. 4. 4. Relatedness and diversity in Swedish local chicken breeds using mitochondrial DNA D-loop sequences and SNP data

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Esther Taiwo Afolabi; [2023]
    Nyckelord :chicken; genetic diversity; mtDNA d-loop; SNP; Swedish local chicken breeds;

    Sammanfattning : Genetic diversity is the variation in genetic information carried by individuals within a species or population. This variability plays a crucial role in enabling species to adapt and survive in changing environments and is essential for evolutionary processes. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Parentage Assignment using genetic markers in the common carp (Cyprinus carpio)

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Sven Kristian Feddersen; [2023]
    Nyckelord :single nucleotide polymorphism; Parentage Assignment; aquaculture; genetic markers;

    Sammanfattning : This study investigated the effect of varying single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) marker density, error threshold selection, and different SNP selection strategies on parentage assignment accuracy in carp populations. Using a marker set of 15,615 SNPs, we found a positive correlation between the quantity of SNP markers and the accuracy of parentage assignments, consistent with existing literature. LÄS MER
