    Sammanfattning : In this thesis were vertical NWFETs (nanowire field-effect transistors) fabricated, and their electrical properties characterised. The main goal was to minimize the parasitic capacitances that limited the high frequency performance.     Sammanfattning : Quantum cascade lasers (QCLs) are periodic semiconductor heterostructures, capable of producing laser gain. They have become an important source of coherent radiation in the mid infrared, and THz frequency regions.
