  1. 1. Migration and activity of the eastern black-backed jackal (Canis mesomelas schmidtii) in Ol Pejeta, Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Författare :Julia Hedman Wallin; [2022]
    Nyckelord :black-backed jackals; Kenya; activity; weather; moon; illumination;

    Sammanfattning : This study examined the effects of weather during the day and illumination at night on the migration activity of the eastern black-backed jackals (Canis mesomelas schmidtii) in Ol Pejeta, a wildlife conservancy in Kenya, from October 2015 to December 2019. Jackal ecology is an understudied subject where focus has been directed to a sub-specie of black-backed jackals in southern Africa, with different animals, seasons, and habitats than to those in Ol Pejeta and eastern Africa. 2. 2. Activity patterns of African buffalo (Syncerus caffer) and the transmission of East Coast Fever (ECF) to domestic cattle in Laikipia County, Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Clinical Sciences

    Författare :Alva Sellgren Molander; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Buffalo; Syncerus caffer; East coast fever; ECF; Theileria parva; Corridor disease; CD; Kenya; Laikipia;

    Sammanfattning : In this study we examined the potential connection between East Coast Fever (ECF) and the local activity pattern of African buffalo in the Ol Pejeta Conservancy (OPC), in Laikipia county, Kenya. Buffalo activity was examined at OPC’s wildlife corridors, which work as the only gates for the animals to pass in and out of the area, by looking at approximately 32 000 pictures taken by infra-red cameras during the year 2019. 3. 3. Woodland key habitats for functional forest landscape green infrastructure in the Swedish mountain region

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Britta Sterner; [2021]
    Nyckelord :woodland key habitat; green infrastructure; connectivity; forest biodiversity; NW Sweden;

    Sammanfattning : The intact forest landscapes along the Scandinavian Mountain range are of very high conservational value both nationally and internationally, due to their intact characteristics and biodiversity. The high nature conservation values have remained as a result of restricted forest clear-cutting above the so-called mountain forest border (MFB). LÄS MER

  4. 4. Nocturnal moths use of novel habitats : a case study on a power line in a forest-mire mosaic in boreal Sweden

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Oskar Lövbom; [2020]
    Nyckelord :pollinators; Lepidoptera; moth; transmission line; assemblage structure; Noctuoidea; Geometridae;

    Sammanfattning : Biodiversity and pollinators are declining all over the world, and a factor thought to cause this decline is destruction of natural habitats. One new way that has been discussed in an effort to try to mitigate the effects of declining habitats is to understand and use novel habitats, which are habitats created when, for example, building roads, railways, and power lines. 5. 5. Wildlife corridor use amongst reticulated giraffes (Giraffa camelopardalis reticulata) at Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Författare :Johanna Lund; [2019]
    Nyckelord :Giraffa camelopadalis reticulata; reticulated giraffe; migration; photographic mark-recapture; Ol Pejeta Conservancy; Laikipia; Kenya; wildlife corridor;

    Sammanfattning : The African continent is home to many large and unique wildlife species and is, as is commonly known, considered to be the birthplace of the human race. The numbers and strength of this wide array of species is however diminishing rapidly before our eyes (Campbell et al., 2003; Ogutu et al., 2016). LÄS MER
