    Sammanfattning : During an extended LOCA in a LWR, the current UO2 fuel reaches very high temperatures and eventually melts, while the current Zircaloy fuel cladding oxidizes releasing hydrogen.     Sammanfattning : In this thesis, UN-U3Si2 nuclear fuel was fabricated using spark plasma sintering and characterized to analyze the microstructure and crystal structure of the resulting pellets. This work was done in collaboration with accident tolerant fuel research, an effort which aims at developing nuclear fuel with superior safety and performance compared to currently used oxide fuels.
