  1. 1. Consequences of alternative forest management in riparian buffer zones : a GIS analysis

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Forest Ecology and Management

    Författare :Elijah Ourth; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Riparian buffer zones; Continuous cover forestry; CCF; Hyggesfritt; Geographical information system; Ditch network maintenance; Ditch; Stream; Natural channel;

    Sammanfattning : With increasing pressure from policymakers and the general public to conduct alternative forest management throughout the European Union (EU), Sweden needs to find ways to best prioritize the implementation of this alternative management. Alternative management is a term used to describe alternative management methods to clear-cut rotation forestry and can include silvicultural methods such as continuous cover forestry, management increasing proportion tree diversity and presence of broadleaves, and extended rotation lengths. 2. 2. Countergradient variation and compensatory growth in Moor frog (Rana arvalis) along a replicated latitudinal gradient

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Sohini Mallick; [2022]
    Nyckelord :moor frog; countergradient variation; compensatory growth; latitudinal gradient;

    Sammanfattning : For evolution to occur over time, it is necessary for animals and plants to show phenotypic variation. If the individuals within populations of a species do not show observable differences among themselves, there will be a lack of driving force for natural selection to act on and decide which characteristic gets inherited from one generation to the next. 3. 3. Sexually segregated habitat selection in Daubenton’s bat Myotis daubentonii

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Wildlife, Fish and Environmental Studies

    Författare :Esnart Emma Bwalya Chibwe; [2021]
    Nyckelord :sexual segregation; Daubenton’s bat; Myotis daubentonii; landscape analysis; habitat selection; foraging;

    Sammanfattning : Sexual segregation is a phenomenon present in many vertebrate taxa, including the bat order Chiroptera. Sexual segregation is a social and/or habitat separation based on sex and is driven by varying causes such as sexual dimorphism, resource and physiological limitations, predator avoidance and many other factors. 4. 4. Wing Shape Variation In A Damselfly: Effects Of Range Margins And Latitude

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Desirée Kristensson; [2021]
    Nyckelord :damselfly; evolution; distribution; sexual selection; range margins; Lestes sponsa; geometric morphometric;

    Sammanfattning : An optimal wing shape is necessary for the survival of winged insects since it enables different survival strategies and is expected to vary between environments due to different selection pressures. However, few studies have explored wing shape variation across the whole range of a species. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Time Constraint and Genetic (Phenotypic) Variation in Wing Shape in a Damselfly Along a Latitudinal Gradient

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för biologisk grundutbildning

    Författare :Meagan Tunon; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Damselfly; time constraint; wing shape; morphology; climate change;

    Sammanfattning : This degree project examined the effect of time constraint on wing shape and phenotypic variation in wing shape along a latitudinal gradient in the damselfly species Lestes sponsa. Fore and hind wings from individuals originating from three different latitudes: North (66°N), Central (59°N) and South (54°N) Europe were treated with their native temperature and photoperiod.
