1. Gravitational Collapse of a Massless Scalar Field in a Theory of Minimally Modified Gravity
Master-uppsats, KTH/FysikSammanfattning : This thesis explores the spherically symmetric gravitational collapse of a massless scalar field in a minimally modified gravity theory denoted VCDM (V replaces $\Lambda$ in the $\Lambda$CDM abbreviation), a class of theories propagating the same degrees of freedom as general relativity at the expense of broken 4D diffeomorphism invariance. Numerical evolution of the equations of motion reveals that for small initial scalar profile amplitudes, no black hole forms from the collapse. LÄS MER
2. Numerical Investigation of Relativistic Perihelion Shift : A Comparative Study Between the Analytical Approximation and Numerical Calculation for the Perihelion Shift Caused by General Relativity
Kandidat-uppsats, KTH/FysikSammanfattning : This study is an investigation of analytical and numerical predictions of the relativistic perihelion shift of the planets in the Solar System. These shifts are a consequence of the general theory of relativity and the theoretical expression for the perihelion shift can be derived using different approximations. LÄS MER
3. B-plane orbital resonance analysis and applications
Master-uppsats, KTH/RymdteknikSammanfattning : Many space engineering and orbital mechanics applications seek for the usage of focused mathematical models, capable of providing useful insight onto particular phenomena or exploiting some theoretical and physical tools to reduce the computational costs and/or increase the level of accuracy reached. Orbital resonances are one of the phenomena that needs to be properly modelled, both for exploiting such features in the mission design phase and to predict possible resonant returns of threatening objects closely approaching a specified planet. 4. Spacetime as a Hamiltonian Orbit and Geroch's Theorem on the Existence of Fermions
Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för fysik och astronomiSammanfattning : Over a century since its inception, general relativity continues to lie at the heart of some of the most researched topics in theoretical physics. It seems likely that the coveted solutions to problems like quantum gravity are to be found in an extension of general relativity, one which may only be visible in an alternate formulation of the theory. 5. Approximating general relativistic effects in Newtonian hydrodynamic supernova simulations
Kandidat-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för astronomiSammanfattning : In this research, the validity of using an effective potential to approximate general relativistic effects in an otherwise Newtonian setting was investigated, by making simulations of core collapse supernovae on one hand in full general relativity, and on the other hand in said Newtonian setting. This was done for a mass range covering progenitors of 12 − 60 solar masses; a much wider mass range than has been used in earlier research, that also includes progenitors that form black holes.
