Sammanfattning: In the middle of the 19th Century the American Henry Thoreau famously did an act of what we today call Civil Disobedience. Since then he has inspired lots of people with his act and today it has become a known and discussed phenomenon. In this thesis I’ll examine the phenomenon civil disobedience. I use a normative study to analyse whether you, from a feminist perspective, can justify three specific cases of civil disobedience executed by women and feminist organisations. The purpose of the thesis is to examine in which case(s) and what factors that decide whether a case of civil disobedience can be justified or not. The chosen actors are: Pussy Riot, Femen and Saudi Arabian women, who have all made headlines with their feminist movements. I will present different theories of civil disobedience as well as feminism to be able to analyse this cases with a great width. In the analysis I discuss the theories that both justify and condemn civil disobedience in relation to the chosen cases. I find that it’s much harder to justify an act of civil disobedience if it was performed in a democracy, and I continue to discuss this fact and the possible reasons behind it in the conclusion.
