'Jo förresten, jag har hiv också' : En kvalitativ studie om homosexuella hivpositiva mäns erfarenheter av nätdejting

Sammanfattning: This study explores HIV-positive gay men’s experiences of online dating. Based on interviews with four HIV-positive gay men, I examine the possibilities for these men to present themselves successfully on online dating sites. The study focuses on the strategies taken on by these men in order to disclose their HIV status on dating sites and the difficulties they encounter in their online dating. The analysis is based on Goffman's dramaturgical perspective and his theories about stigma. The study finds that HIV positive gay men adjust their online presentation in accordance with prevailing ideals within the gay scene. My findings suggest a pattern of mutual filtering where HIV-positive men by being open about their HIV status online also can sort out those that are not interested. I understand the mutual filtering as a way to manage the relationship between stigma and intimacy as Goffman presents it.
