Sammanfattning: Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) is a serious social problem and teenagers are particularly exposed. A study by Axell (2018, s. 11) showed that one in five adolescents has been exposed to some criminal act by their partner, often taking place in school (Korkmaz 2021 s. 79). Teachers play asignificant role in students' lives, and have the opportunity to notice if a student is being exposed to IPV. The purpose of this study was to investigate the professional role of teachers when it comes to IPV. Our research questions were: 1. What experience do teachers have about IPV among students? 2. What do teachers consider what they can and cannot do when they notice IPV among students? 3. What perceptions do teachers have of the knowledge within the school regarding IPV among teenagers? Data was collected through seven interviews including two cases of IPV presented as vignettes. The analysis was based on Abbott´s (1988) theory of the system of professions where we used the definitions of: diagnoses, knowledge systems and jurisdiction. We found that the interviewed teachers had different experiences of IPV in schools. They commonly contacted other professions for support or guidance when a student was exposed to IPV. The study showed that teachers have the necessary knowledge to perceive the symptoms of IPV even though they might not be aware it is a case of IPV. Finally, the study showed that the teachers had different opinions of what they need to know about IPV. Some of the interviewed teachers thought that teachers as well as students need to be more aware about IPV,while some thought that it is not needed at all. The research design did not allow us to make any general conclusions about teacher opinions or perceptions or to investigate correlations between the teacher's opinions and perceptions and their age, gender, or school location. Therefore a quantitative design study needs to be carried out to investigate for further research. But Further research also needs to be carried out to investigate more studies of to which extent students have been exposed to IPV in schools and what students consider necessary to open up and talk about their exposure to an adult in schools.
