Sammanfattning: This thesis examines how the political parties the Socialdemocrats and the Moderate Party use visual text images in a security- and migration discourse in order to evoke certain feelings among the receivers. First we have situated this thesis in a contemporary and historical political context. Our theoretical approach has been racialization as a power dynamic process which construct the relationship between ’us and the others’. This dichotomy constitutes both gender and race. Sarah Ahmeds theory about affective economies has helped us to understand how emotions is part of a larger structure. Securitization, whiteness and Nordic exceptionalism is part of our theory in explaining the context in which dominant ’othering’ rhetoric is used. We have examined 13 text images, produced by the Socialdemocrats and the Moderate party. Our methods in analysing these depictions, has been discourse analysis and Stuart Halls understanding of encoding and decoding visual representations. Our analysis has discovered that the Socialdemocrats and the Moderate party uses visual representations of constructed problems like migration and begging, that are connected to a migration- and security discourse. Through this discourse, the parties use certain representations of ’nationhood’ and ’migrants’. These representations constructs illusions of a threat, that is embodied by the ’migrant’, and construct the ’nation’ as an object in need for protection and security.
