Hägnaders roll i det historiska kulturlandskapet - En studie av hägnaders utveckling och funktion på den bohuslänska ön Orust

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för kulturvård

Sammanfattning: Over the years, fences have served a variety of purposes. They have also been built in different types of materials such as stone, wood, peat and soil. Depending on the material used, there are a varying number of fences left today. On the island of Orust, located on the Swedish west coast north of Gothenburg, a large number of older stone fences can be seen in the landscape today. They are considered valuable cultural-historical elements, but despite this they have not been particularly documented. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to show the historical development and function of fences on Orust. Three areas on Orust have been selected for the study. For each area, historical maps from the 18th and 19th centuries have been analysed. In the maps, the locations of fences in the landscape have been studied and how the fences have changed over time. Historical photographs from the 20th century have also been analysed to obtain information on how the fences were located in the landscape and what materials they were built of. Field visits have also been made to the areas to see what the fences look like today. The visits have also been made to find out which fences remain from the historical maps, which have disappeared and if any have been added. The results from the study are presented in the chapter ”Undersökning och sammanfattande resultat”.
