Föreningsliv som integration : En kvalitativ studie om svensk-somaliska föreningars arbete med integration.

Sammanfattning: Authors: Ida Lingegård and Gabriel Skarrie. Title: “Third sector as actors of integration” - A qualitative study about swedish- somalian organizations’ work with integration. Supervisor: Lotti Ryberg Welander. The purpose of this study was to see how swedish-somalian organizations in Skåne define and work with integration. We’ve done four qualitative interviews with people working for different swedish-somalian organizations in Skåne. Our first question was how they define integration. Although their definitions differ from each other our findings showed that their views of integration can be summarized into four themes: Building of interethnic relationships, Cultural exchange, Versatile change and engagement and finally Equality. Our second question was how they work with integration. To analyze their integrational activities we used Jose Alberto Diaz different dimensions of integration. We found that the organizations work towards structural -, social -, political - and communicative integration. We also used T.H Marshall and Thomas Bottomore’s citizenship theory. We found that the organizations work to fulfil substantial rights. Primarily they work for social rights, but also civil - and political rights. Finally we put the organizations’ cultural activities in an integrational context. Key words: integration, swedish-somalian organizations, social work, immigration, citizenship.
