Sammanfattning: The purpose of this report is to show how construction trailers can be more energy efficient. It also shows how NCC could cut their energy costs, and carbon dioxide emissions using construction trailers. This report was developed with NCC, a large-scale customer which hires many construction trailers. Building processes at today’s construction sites use a lot of energy. The main focus when building houses is to make the houses more energy efficient, therefore, little thought go into making the building sites energy efficient. Out of all the energy spent on a building site in Sweden, 70% is spent on construction trailers and lighting. According to BBR, a new house must use less than 110 kWh/m2 per year, while this report shows that a standard construction trailer uses 331 kWh/m2 per year containing heating, hot water and operation energy. NCC rent their construction trailers from various companies such as CRAMO, Ramirent, and Tidermans. Currently these companies work on developing energy efficient trailers; however, CRAMO is the only company that can offer an energy efficient solution. This report analyzes various measures that will make the trailers more energy efficient. Some of these measures include physical changes to the trailers themselves. However, one of the biggest energy consumption problems is the trailer’s construction; moreover, they have a high u-value. To improve the trailers, changing insulation in walls, ceiling, and floor have been analyzed. Additional thin vacuum insulation panels (25 mm) on the inside have also been tested. Other examples include using isolation paint, changing windows/doors, and altering the distance between the bolts in the walls. Last but not least installation of air heating pumps that has had positive testing results made by NCC has been analyzed. The result from incorporating all of these changes on construction trailers is reducing energy consumption by 60 %, a saving of 199 kWh/m2, year. This means 14.7 million Swedish kronor a year saved. By using isolation paint on the inside, and outside of the walls, and ceilings, and installing air heating pumps, NCC has the ability to reduce energy consumption by 44 %. With NCC five new upcoming projects where they will connect these pumps to the construction trailer establishment this would be a great solution to just apply the isolation paint as well to considerably save energy, and reduce costs. A common solution of changing the windows and doors to more energy efficient parts only improves the energy requirement by 8 %. This reflects only a small change compared to the cost, and not nearly as large of a change from making the full improvements or using the pump with isolation paint.
