Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Konstnärliga fakulteten i Malmö

Sammanfattning: Colouring with intonation – variable intonation of Swedish folk music on the trombone In this bachelor's thesis, an exploration of folk music with variable intonation with the instrument trombone as a tool is described. Using a diary to follow the practice sessions, the project explores different methods to learn performance practice of the microtonal intervals themselves and of actual tunes from the older Swedish folk music repertoire. The trombone is not a common instrument in the folk music environment, but the construction of it is suited to be used for alternative intonations. This is an advantage since intonation can be used in the genre to give colour to the melodies. The study digs into personal expression and results in raised awareness of the intervals of modality, as well as deeper knowledge of aural traditional performance practice. To support this thesis a text by Sven Ahlbäck (Tonspråket i äldre svensk folkmusik) is used. This time limited process is very specifically focused on one way of practicing. There are however numerous other ways that would develop my skills further in this musical aspect as well as other.
