Vanställd och vilseledande : En kvalitativ studie av kändisskap och kosmetiska ingrepp utifrån Madonnas mediehändelse under februari 2023

Sammanfattning: The media event following Madonna's guest hosting of the 65th annual Grammy awards of 2023 presented extensive material concerning the topic of Madonna and her alleged cosmetic procedures. Therefore this essay aims to identify and understand the different narratives, opinions and values that were expressed on the topic of Madonna and her alleged cosmetic procedures in this media event. This essay also aims to understand how these narratives, opinions and values are created and how we can understand them in a greater context relating to celebrityhood and cosmetic procedures. The methodological approach consists of a qualitative netnographic method which results in a social media-based material. This is further analyzed through the theoretical framework consisting of theories regarding media, celebrityhood, cloning culture and pariah femininity. This results in the identification of multiple negative narratives, opinions and values regarding Madonna and her alleged cosmetic procedures. Further this is established as a form of cloning culture in which these narratives, opinions and values can be understood as methods of rejection to maintain and manage a set of norms and ideals. This rejection is further recognized as a part of a systemic disfavouring and repression of famous women, exacerbated by the weaponizing of alleged cosmetic procedures. This is further understood as part of a widespread media use of celebrities in processes of social positioning together with personal and cultural processes of value creation.
