Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Göteborgs universitet / / Institutionen för sociologi och arbetsvetenskap

Sammanfattning: The purpose of this study was to identify strategies used by relatives of bilingual and transcultural individuals diagnosed with dementia, focusing on social and cultural aspects beyond medical care. The study conducted six semistructured interviews with Sweden-Finnish relatives of dementia patients. The gathered data was analyzed using grounded theory, leading to the emergence of five key strategies: 1) Identity-stabilizing interventions, 2) Communication-supporting interventions, 3) De-medicalizing interventions, 4) Organized cultural interventions, and 5) Activist interventions. The findings suggest that establishing long-term collaboration between families and caregivers can enhance patient well-being and address long-term challenges. Further research is recommended to refine the theory and analyze the practical implementation and social impact of these strategies.
