Sammanfattning: The automotive industry is a highly competitive market where companies from all over the world are active. Customers and laws place high demands on this ever-changing industry. In order to succeed in maintaining and developing companies in the industry, efficient processes are required that are able to meet the hard competition and provide a good financial margin. An important part for the company is its production lines, which greatly affect its success. In order for a production line to be effective, it is required that there is a well-functioning material handling. The study is conducted at the company Aurobay, which is a leader in manufacturing powertrain solutions for car manufacturers. Aurobay is part of the Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, which has cooperation and ownership of several car brands. The study is conducted at the manufacturing unit in Skövde, where combustion engines are produced. At one of the assembly lines for internal combustion engines, problems related to material handling are experienced. The study is conducted on the external assembly for gasoline engines. The focus has been specifically on the station where the turbochargers are mounted. Due to the workmanship of the workstation and the fact that the turbocharger is a bulky item, the problems become clear. In addition, focusing on a specific workstation means that more detailed observations and mapping have been made. The problem is that material handling interferes with the productivity of the assembly line, which is noted in the form of a lot of space being used and that the assembly line stops due to lack of material.  The study has mapped how today's material handling affects the production line by conducting interviews, observations and calculations. The data collected was then analyzed using the theoretical framework developed. Based on the analysis that was carried out, improvement proposals were then developed to address the problems that had been highlighted. The study resulted in two improvement proposals being developed, one of which can be implemented in two steps. The first proposal improvement is to develop a new ordering system for materials. In the first mode, a manual method has been developed, with the possibility of implementing in an automatic system in the future. The second proposed measure is based on material deliveries taking place at a higher frequency, which means that delivery times are shortened and reduced in variation. The improvement proposals are intended to be applied to several articles and workstations with the aim of helping the company to utilize its production space more efficiently and that the negative impact of material deliveries is reduced. Finally, the expectation is that the thesis can help the manufacturing industry in general with new insights.
