Sammanfattning: Validated, time- and cost-effective screening materials for reading and writing difficulties are requested. This study aimed to investigate thecorrelation between a parental questionnaire that examines children's reading and writing skills in grade 3 and pupils performances on three established literacy tests from Diagnostiska Läs- och Skrivprov and Lilla DUVAN. Thequestionnaire used is a combination of Five To Fifteen and Colorado Learning Difficulties Questionnaire, both used clinically inter alia toevaluate literacy skills in children. The questionnaire was answered by parents and compared to 137 pupils test results. Chronbach’s Alpha showed good reliability of the questionnaire. Pearson’s correlation coefficient proved correlation between the parental estimations and pupils test results. Area under the curve showed that the questionnaire had sensitivity and specificity which reliably could identify pupils with possible reading and writingdifficulties. This study’s results indicate that the parental questionnaire could be used in epidemiological research or as a screening instrument.
