Sammanfattning: On the 22 September 2020 Xi Jinping announced China's upcoming climate goals, China will peak carbon emissions before 2030 and reach carbon neutrality before 2060, this goal is known as “the two carbon goals”. By using a mixed-method approach this study investigated how and what framing strategies the Chinese government uses to frame the “two carbon goals” in the state owned newspaper People’s Daily. The five frames used were responsibility, economic consequence, conflict, human impact and morality. Based on the occuring framing strategies, characteristics from authoritarian environmentalism were investigated in respective frames. The result shows that the responsibility and economic consequence frames were by far the most commonly used frames. The morality, human impact and conflict frame only occurred in a few articles. The framing strategies used by the Communist party concludes promoting projects that support green and scientific research, praising economical and social benefits, improving people’s lives and by emphasizing great leadership. Authoritarian environmentalism was not a strategy People’s Daily directly reported about, however the framing strategies used indirectly contained characteristics from this model.
