Beyond Slacktivism? : En explorativ fallstudie om ungdomars engagemang i Klimatstrejken i Sverige

Sammanfattning: In this paper we explore the various reasons behind the youth’s engagement in climate activism in Stockholm, Sweden and the role that social media plays in said engagement, restricting the research to the focus of the organisation Friday For Future. With a theoretical perspective that encapsulates theories regarding the ever-present role of media in everyday life, the role that assembly and affect plays when protesting we designed a study that consisted of qualitative interviews and an ethnographical observation of the climate protests that Fridays For Future organised. We found that the motivations for protesting were not solely based on the urgent need to save the environment but also the feeling of belonging and the sense of community amongst the protesters. The role of social media appeared to be less significant than we initially hypothesised.
