   Sammanfattning : While global carbon dioxide emissions increase considerably over the past decades, the former Soviet Union republics experience a substantial decrease of the environmental indicator since the dissolution of the USSR. Nonetheless, considering the prominent Soviet heritage in a form of energy intensive heavy manufacturing, industrialization remains one of the strong determinants for the environmental change.
