  1. 21. Uppfattningar om viktboots och tyngre skoning inom islandshästsporten

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry

    Författare :Amanda Fängström Persson; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Islandshäst; ryttare; domare; viktboots; skoning; hovbeslag; balansering;

    Sammanfattning : Opinions regarding weighted boots and heavier shoes in the Icelandic horse sport The Icelandic Horse is a versatile horse and therefore a very popular breed. They are used in many different disciplines but mainly as a riding horse, competition horse and within pleasure riding. LÄS MER

  2. 22. The role of Myostatin polymorphisms in the Finnhorse and Shetland pony breeds

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Laura Bas Conn; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Horse; Myostatin; Finnhorse; Shetland pony; Harness racing; Performance; Conformation;

    Sammanfattning : Myostatin, encoded by the MSTN gene, is a member of the transforming growth factor β that normally acts to limit skeletal muscle mass by regulating both the number and growth of muscle fibers. Natural mutations that decrease the amounts of myostatin and/or inhibit its function have been identified in several cattle, sheep and dog breeds, where loss-of-function mutations cause increased skeletal muscle mass and produce a phenotype known as “double-muscling”. 3. 23. Metabolic effects of altered body fat content in the Icelandic horse : responses to feeding and exercise

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry

    Författare :Tanja Rún Jóhannsdóttir; [2017]
    Nyckelord :Icelandic horse; body condition; metabolic effects; training physiology;

    Sammanfattning : Obesity is one of the most common welfare problems affecting domesticated horses and is believed to stimulate the development of other metabolic syndromes, i.e. insulin resistance and laminitis. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Genetic analysis of conformation traits in Icelandic horses with focus on head morphology and body length

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Breeding and Genetics

    Författare :Veronica Felt; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Icelandic horses; conformation; SNPs; association analysis;

    Sammanfattning : In the breeding evaluation of Icelandic horses there are eight breeding goals that refer to conformation, for example head carriage. Genetic evaluation of the horse is an important part for succeeding with breeding goals and this information is taken from assessments from breeding field tests, including conformation of the horses. 5. 25. The association of two genetic markers and evaluation scores for tölt in Icelandic horses

    Kandidat-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry

    Författare :Ida Barry; [2016]
    Nyckelord :Gaits; SNPs; Horse;

    Sammanfattning : Previous studies have shown that some horse breeds carries a mutated variant of the gene DMRT3, which is crucial for horses to perform alternative gaits like pace and tölt. The mutation is also important for harnessing racing performance. LÄS MER
