  1. 1. Trilingual spoken word recognition : Interlingual competition from one or two non-target languages in a sentence context

    Magister-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Centrum för tvåspråkighetsforskning

    Författare :Yulia Kashevarova; [2023]
    Nyckelord :trilingual speech processing; cross-linguistic competition; sentence context; BLINCS; BIA ;

    Sammanfattning : Persistent non-target language co-activation in spoken and visual language comprehension has been found both at the word-level and at the level of a sentence, although in the latter case, sentence bias has been observed to modulate the co-activation which can create lexical competition. In the case of trilingual speakers, both non-target languages may potentially compete with the third language (L3). LÄS MER

  2. 2. LinguaMapping: The New Frontier in Language Processing : A New Online Tool for Measuring Swedish L1 Transfer in English Embedded Relative Clauses

    Kandidat-uppsats, Högskolan i Halmstad/Akademin för lärande, humaniora och samhälle

    Författare :Henrik Salomonsson; [2023]
    Nyckelord :L1 transfer; English embedded relative clauses; language processing; eye-tracking; self-paced reading; LinguaMapping;

    Sammanfattning : The structure of embedded relative clauses in English may involve several grammatical elements, generating different grammatical rules with respect to word order. Studying the impact of first language (L1) transfer in the production of English embedded relative clauses is important to reveal valuable information about specific challenges in second language acquisition (SLA). 3. 3. An online study of L2 relative clause processing: Evidence from self-paced reading in Persian learners of English

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Allmän språkvetenskap; Lunds universitet/Masterprogram: Språk och språkvetenskap

    Författare :Abdolnoor Khaleghi; [2022]
    Nyckelord :relative clause; online L2 processing; second language comprehension; attachment preference; self-paced reading; heuristic processing; good-enough approach; working memory span.; Languages and Literatures;

    Sammanfattning : This study examines relative clause (RC) processing in Persian learners of English and native speakers of English to explore whether or how different task demands, referential context information with three potential RC antecedents along with the variables noun type (definite, indefinite), RC length (short, long) and RC type (extraposed, non-extraposed) affect their processing, using both an online non-cumulative self-paced reading task and an offline questionnaire. In the self-paced reading task, the online processing of RC attachment resolution was examined when participants read temporarily ambiguous sentences with RCs preceded by one clause or two clauses containing three NPs followed by comprehension questions to explore L2 RC attachment preferences. 4. 4. Syntactic Crossroads: Testing L2 sensitivity to Strong Crossover in an online experiment.

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Institutionen för svenska och flerspråkighet

    Författare :Daniele Tucciarone; [2022]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : We investigated sensitivity of non-native speakers of English to the Strong Crossover (SCO) constraint and Binding Principle C. Taking Clahsen & Felser’s (2006) Shallow Structure Hypothesis as a theoretical foundation, we tested whether non-native speakers would show a similar ability in predictively processing syntactic gaps in Strong Crossover configurations as had English native speakers in Kush et al. 5. 5. Facilitative Online Processing of Gender in Swedish as a Second Language

    Master-uppsats, Stockholms universitet/Centrum för tvåspråkighetsforskning

    Författare :Rebecca Borg; [2021]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Similar to other Indo-European languages, Swedish makes use of grammatical gender and distinguishes between two noun categories: common and neuter nouns. This study aimed to examine whether L1 speakers whose L2 lacks gender are capable of utilizing gender agreement markers in a timed picture naming task in Swedish. LÄS MER
