  1. 11. Can Dwarf Galaxies Tell Us How the Milky Way Formed?

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Þóra Karlsdóttir; [2023]
    Nyckelord :Dwarf Galaxy; Milky Way; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Dwarf galaxies are a key component in understanding the evolution of galaxies and provide tests on the standard cosmological $\Lambda$ Cold Dark Matter model. According to the formation hierarchy, dwarf galaxies are the pieces that create all galaxies. Our current understanding of dwarf galaxies faces discrepancies between theory and observations. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Simulations of the Tenuous Upper Atmospheres of Exoplanets

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astrofysik; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Lucian Spitzner; [2023]
    Nyckelord :astronomy; astrophyics; exoplanets; transmission spectroscopy; magnetic fields; atmospheres; ions; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Over the last decade, the interest in research on extraterrestrial planets has expanded dramatically. With the number of confirmed exoplanets having increased tenfold over the last ten years, we now know that many different types of exoplanets exist. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Black Hole Dynamics in Stellar Clusters

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för astronomi och teoretisk fysik - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Markus Strickert; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Black Holes; Globular Clusters; Dynamics; Intermediate-mass black holes; Simulations; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Star clusters can harbour many exotic objects, including black holes (BHs), X-ray binaries and blue straggler stars. In dense stellar environments like globular clusters (GCs), two-body relaxation drives their dynamical evolution, where gravitational interactions between stars strive to equalize their kinetic energy in the cluster. 4. 14. Colliding Galaxies in a (Nut)Shell

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation; Lunds universitet/Fysiska institutionen

    Författare :Jonathan Petersson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :shell galaxies; simulations; starbursts; quenching; mergers; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Galaxy interactions and mergers are natural recurring events in the current cosmological paradigm, events that often coincide with starbursts and enhanced star formation activity. To understand why that is, one can use idealised (non-cosmological) merger simulations, which provide freedom to recreate specific tidally distorted galaxies, and analysis of the time evolution and underlying physics of the star formation activity at a high spatial resolution. 5. 15. Blue Stragglers from Primordial Binary Evolution

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Emilie Desrochers Karlsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :blue stragglers; binary; stars; binary evolution; mass transfer; Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : Blue stragglers were first discovered as hotter and more luminous than the turnoff in the globular cluster M3. Their presence is typically explained by the interplay between stellar collisions and mass transfer in binary systems. In this thesis, I study blue stragglers produced from primordial binary evolution. LÄS MER
