Kat, somalier och integration

Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Lunds universitet/Socialhögskolan

Sammanfattning: The main purpose with our essay was to investigate if there is a problem with the drug khat in Helsingborg. We also wanted to find out if the use of khat amongst somalian people is connected to in what sense they are integrated into the swedish society. As empirical material we used qualitative interviews with both somalians and people who comes in contact with somalians in their work. In our essay we used Adam Jamrozik and Luisa Nocella`s Residualist conversion theory and Marianne Freyne-Lindhagen`s theory of pseudointegration. The results of our survey shows that the use of khat among somalian people is not a problem in Helsingborg. The somalians are relatively well integrated in Helsingborg. Most somalians have jobs and do not live in segregated areas in the community. In those parts of Sweden where use of khat among somalians is common, the integration of the somalians is not working very well. This indicates that the use of khat is not a problem in itself but is rather a sign of lack of integration.
