Sammanfattning: Purpose – This thesis aims to examine the consequences of temporary residence permits, due to the more restrictive immigration policy that Sweden has witnessed during the past 7 years. The aim is also to investigate whether the type of residence permit is associated with the perceived fairness of the asylum policy from the perspective of newly arrived asylum seekers. Design/Methodology – In this study I used a qualitative methodology to gather the empirical data. The data collection involved conducting semi-structured interviews with eight newly arrived Syrians who currently hold temporary residence permits. Findings – The result of this study concludes that temporary residence permits have significant consequences for asylum seekers, including that they live in a state of constant uncertainty regarding their future. Furthermore, the study revealed a correlation between the perception of fairness in the system and the specific type of residence permit held by newly arrived asylum seekers.
