Sammanfattning: The Purpose of this study is to analyze possible differences in the conditions of labor market entry for young people in Swedish High Schools. Differences in conditions for students are interesting to study with the knowledge that youth unemployment in Sweden today is quite high compared to many other European countries and that young people generally have a weaker position in the labor market than adults. The students who participate in the survey are between 18 and 20 years old and are attending the final year of a practical High School program. The reason for selecting this particular group to be studied is that statistics show that these youths to a greater degree are considered for employment directly after High School compared with youths who attend other types of High School programs. The latter instead have a tendency to proceed directly to university or college education. Any upcoming differences are analyzed by studying youths based on their sex and their parents’ educational background. The analysis of the results used theories of the French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu's concepts of habitus and capital. The theories are used to try to understand trends in differences or similarities in sex and educational background. The study used a quantitative method in which a survey has been conducted with the students. The number of respondents was 62 students, of which 31 were boys and 31 were girls. Based on their parents' educational background the study had access to 27 students who had at least one parent with a university or college background, while 25 students had parents with high school or elementary school as their highest educational background. The results of the survey have been compiled and hypothesis tested by the analytical program SPSS (Statistics Package for the Social Sciences). In total, 15 hypotheses were tested in the program where all but four were falsified. Although the results did not show significant differences between groups, there are certain tendencies for differences, especially in sex. In particular, differences by gender are shown in the question regarding how much they are looking forward to start working after graduating school. Also, questions regarding them having known for a long time what they want to work with after school and if they might consider taking any kind of job after school to avoid unemployment show differences. Differences based on parents' educational background were noticed more in the question if they wish to work with something similar to their parents.
