Sammanfattning: A study that contributes to in-depth knowledge of which methods and strategies benefit students in reading and writing development in grades F-3. The study is based on previous research in the subject and a questionnaire answered by active or previously active teachers in grades F-3. The survey consists of 19 questions which the basis for are finding out which factors the teachers consider having a decisive role for good reading and writing development in the classroom. In the study, it appears that the majority of the teachers who participated point out that the lack of time is a major problem in teaching. The teachers feel that the time is not enough, which often results in each student not getting the help or adaptation that the student needs. The teachers also point out that they rarely change methods if they use one that they think works well. However, the teachers agree that an adaptation of the methods takes place for each new group of students. The most common method mentioned by the teachers is the phonics method, followed by ASL, the Bornholm model, the whole word method, the circle model, high-frequency words, reading aloud, multi-reading, the RT method, the 7-step method, LTG, phonomix and shared reading. According to the teachers, the sounding method is a method that can be introduced early to the children and can be implemented in a fun way that arouses the students' interest and curiosity
