Sammanfattning: This bachelor thesis is a qualitative study that builds on five afghan immigrants’ experiences of national belonging after living in Sweden for many years. The primary focus of this thesis has been to study what purpose place and belonging has in identity making. It problematizes that national territory is a big part of our identity making and our sense of belonging, especially when it comes to refugees. It is analyzed how national territory as space can be said to influence/ intervene with the interviewees sense of belonging and national identity making in their assumed displacement in Sweden. The study shows that territorialization can be problematic in transmigratory matters because it often confines people to their homelands, i.e. the national territory they orginally come from. This study shows that my interviewees experience a sense of being, both in, and between, two national spaces because of sedentary thoughts. It shows that belonging is an ongoing process and situational in it's form.
