Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Umeå universitet/Sociologiska institutionen

Sammanfattning: Previous research shows that older people tend to be more vulnerable to fraud than younger people. The following bachelor's thesis aims to understand how the risk of being exposed to fraud affects the everyday lives of the elderly. The study material consists of six individual interviews and one with two respondents. The seven respondents are between 65 and 80 years old. The study uses thematic analysis, and the material is divided into three themes: security, the elderly as more vulnerable, and competence concerning fraud. The interview was semi-structured. The results show that several respondents felt anxious about being exposed to fraud. Many of the respondents' used strategies, such as deleting strange emails or not disclosing codes, to reduce the risk of exposure to fraud.
