Detta är en Kandidat-uppsats från Linnéuniversitetet/Institutionen för kemi och biomedicin (KOB)

Sammanfattning: Background: In today's society, children and young people spend a lot of their awake time with quiet activities in their free time, such computer use. It contributes to little physical activity and a passive lifestyle. The curriculum for elementary school, preschool class and leisure time (2011, Rev. 2Nf 017) emphasizes the importance of offering all students physical activity during school day. Research shows that physical activity inter alia affects the brain and pupils' school results. Purpose: The purpose of this literature study was to study what research says about school-based physical activity and its possible impact on pupils (7-15 years) school performance? Method: A systematically studied literature study involving research in the field of school-based physical activity and pupils' school achievements. The literature search was done in the databases One Search, ERIC and PubMed. Inclusions and exclusion criteria were used to demarcate the search. The study selected seven articles that focused on school-based physical activity and included students between the ages of 7- 15 years. The articles were reviewed and evaluated by SBU's review template to see its relevance to the study. The articles are presented in a table of purpose, design and results. Result: The articles in showed different results. Most results were optimistic and showed that school-based physical activity positively affected pupils' school performance. Other studies show a slight impact or no impact. School-based moderate to vigorous physical activity showed positive improvement in students' academic study results. Aerobic exercise proved to be more effective than moderate physical activity. Conclusion: Promoting physical activity in schools through implementation of curriculum-based intervention programs can improve pupils' school performance in terms of better academic outcomes and concentration. Especially with the academically weakest students. This indicates that there are positive links between physical activity and pupils' school achievements.
