Sammanfattning: There has been a downward trend in reading ability and motivation to read among Swedishadolescents in recent decades. This study aims to investigate, through qualitative semi-structuredresearch interviews, what the opinions are of several Swedish teachers at the upper secondarylevel regarding reading fiction and what methods they use to motivate their students to readfiction. The study will also touch on how teachers feel concerning conversations about literaturein their classrooms and whether teachers notice any difference in motivation to read in studentslinked to gender.Based on theories from leading researchers in the field of reading motivation, tenrecommendations that increase reading motivation have been developed and this study aims todiscuss the extent to which the interviewed teachers work based on these recommendations.The study concludes that according to the conditions Swedish upper secondary level teachershave, they work to a substantial extent according to the recommendations developed in thisstudy
