Sammanfattning: The aim of this study was to investigate the selections teachers have made from the Swedish curriculum for Religious Education, and explore if there were any similarities or differences between teachers who teach grades 7-9 and upper secondary school. Furthermore we wanted to investigate what previous knowledge the teachers expected from their students and how they took the already existing knowledge with the student under consideration when planninga lesson. The main methods applied were classroom observations and semi structured interviews with six teachers; three from grade 7-9 and three from upper secondary school. We have analyzed the criteria descriptions for the lowest passing grade “E” in both LGY11 and LGR11, as well as the aim of the subject for these two, this in relation to what the teachers have selected and have chosen to focus on in their teaching. The compiled results showed thatall teachers have interpreted the curriculum in a manner where they include almost everythingfrom the aim of the subject, but are also selective as to what they focus more on. The results also show that all teachers, in one way or another, inspect and contemplate their student's previous knowledge when planning a lesson or a course. However, they did this in various ways and to different degrees. In conclusion we would like to add that all interviewed teachers were positive to this project since they all expressed the lack of research within this area, and that they experience the similarities between the two curriculums to be strikingly similar.
