Sammanfattning: Recommendation systems provide consumers with products of interest and they areeffective tools since users save both time and energy. The systems may also containbias. Bias influences how users think and the decisions that are made. One of manybiases that might occur in recommendation systems can be defined as rating bias. The purpose of this work was to contribute to an understanding of whetherincreased awareness and knowledge about bias, can affect people's perception ofrecommendation systems. The main focus was on the hypothesis that the group thatwas informed about rating bias, rates the recommendations less trustworthy thanthe other group, where the information was excluded. A terminologicalmeasurement tool was used to assess the trustworthiness of the recommendationsand an experiment was created with a 2x5x5 design. In the experiment theparticipants were presented with five scenarios and asked to rate five terms of howthey perceived the trustworthiness of the recommendations. The results indicatethat in the group where the information about rating bias was excluded, theparticipants considered the recommendations to be more trustworthy, however, thedifferences between the groups did not result in statistical significance. Based onthe results of this study, information about rating bias did not affect people'sperception of how trustworthy the recommendations were.
