  1. 1. Traits of peat- and upland-derived stream dissolved organic carbon in the permafrost region around Abisko, northern Sweden

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Nora Kainz; [2021]
    Nyckelord :physical geography; ecosystem analysis; permafrost degradation; DOC; DOC concentration; stable isotope carbon signature; DOC quality; DOC degradation; Atmospheric Sciences and Biogeochemical Cycles; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Climate change-induced thawing of permafrost mobilizes previously frozen carbon of high potential reactivity, thereby, fuelling microbiological production of greenhouse gases. For this work, an analysis of the quantity, quality, and bioreactivity of DOC in streams from the Stordalen discontinuous permafrost catchment was carried out with stream water samples during the relatively warm summer of 2018. 2. 2. Analysis of Arctic peak-season carbon flux estimations based on four MODIS vegetation products

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Antonin Kusbach; [2016]
    Nyckelord :satellite-derived data; vegetation indices; Arctic; net ecosystem exchange; big data analysis; Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Increased temperatures in high latitudes may alter the carbon dynamics throughout the Arctic. Modelled CO2 simulations show that current climate conditions constitute the Arctic a net carbon sink, though the large extent and fine landscape heterogeneity raise an uncertainty about the carbon sink/source status of the region. 3. 3. Object-Based Classification of Vegetation at Stordalen Mire near Abisko by using High-Resolution Aerial Imagery

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Marco Giljum; [2014]
    Nyckelord :Physical Geography and Ecosystem Analysis; Object-Based Image Analysis; OBIA; Vegetation Classification; Permafrost; Arctic Peatland; Remote Sensing; Aerial Photography; Environmental Monitoring; Landscape Analysis; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The focus of this work is to investigate and apply the remote sensing method of object-based image analysis (OBIA) for vegetation classification of a permafrost underlain peatland in sub-arctic Sweden, by using aerial imagery of high resolution. Since the northern landscapes are an important source of naturally stored CH4 and CO2, their contribution to the global carbon cycle is a focus in research about climate change and the global methane exchange. 4. 4. The suitability of using Landsat TM-5 Images for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter in subarctic Lakes

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Julia Jakobsson; [2014]
    Nyckelord :CDOM; dissolved organic carbon; colored dissolved organic matter; Chromophoric; landsat thematic mapper 5; subarctic lakes; Stordalen; empirical algorithm.; Abisko; DOC; remote sensing; Physical Geography and Ecosystem Science; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Recent trends of permafrost thawing in the subarctic are expected to cause increased release of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) to inland waters, which might have cascading effects on downstream aquatic ecosystems and release of CO2 to the atmosphere. This study therefore aimed at evaluating the applicability of an empirical band ratio algorithm for estimating chromophoric dissolved organic matter (CDOM; a proxy for DOC) from the easily accessible satellite images Landsat TM-5, to counter the inaccessibility of the region in general. 5. 5. Degrading palsa mires in northern Europe : changing vegetation in an altering climate and its potential impact on greenhouse gas fluxes

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Institutionen för naturgeografi och ekosystemvetenskap

    Författare :Julia Karlgård; [2008]
    Nyckelord :geography; physical geography; palsa mires; northern Europe; greenhouse gas fluxes; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : The on-going global warming is projected to have large impacts on the arctic and subarctic environment. Especially vulnerable are ecosystems with narrow climatic envelopes and with small possibilities of adaptation. An example of this is the palsa mires, subarctic mire complexes with patches of permafrost. LÄS MER
