  1. 1. Body patterning and cognition in cephalopods - a literature review

    Master-uppsats, SLU/Dept. of Animal Environment and Health

    Författare :Georgina Chu; [2023]
    Nyckelord :cephalopods; octopus; body patterning; colour alteration; chromatophores; pigment cells; cognition; learning and memory;

    Sammanfattning : Cephalopods are a valuable model for studying the evolution of cognition due to their distinctive brain structure, organisation, and connectivity patterns compared to vertebrates. The development of large brains and behavioural complexities are believed to be triggered by evolutionary pressures stemming from factors like heightened predation, more demanding foraging conditions, and intense mating competition. 2. 2. Properties of the Optical Hot Spots in the Circumstellar Ring of SN 1987A

    Master-uppsats, KTH/Fysik

    Författare :Christos Tegkelidis; [2023]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The proximity of Supernova 1987A provides a great opportunity to study the aftermath of the impact of the ejecta with the dense clumps (observed as ”hot spots”) located in the equatorial circumstellar ring. This thesis examines the properties of the clumps by using Hubble Space Telescope optical imaging taken with the F625W and F675W broad filters between 1994 and 2022. LÄS MER

  3. 3. The Rotational Centre of the Large Magellanic Cloud

    Kandidat-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Astronomi - Genomgår omorganisation

    Författare :Alma Bergström; [2022]
    Nyckelord :Physics and Astronomy;

    Sammanfattning : The Large and Small Magellanic Clouds (LMC & SMC) are the two largest galaxies orbiting the Milky Way (MW). The interactions between them have affected the evolution of both galaxies. The interactions have affected the galaxies differently depending on how strong they have been. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Foreland evolution of Blåisen, Norway, over the course of an ablation season

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Alexander Hamilton-Foyn; [2020]
    Nyckelord :Geomorphological Mapping; Structure from Motion; Glacial Landforms; Ice-Marginal Landforms; Landform Preservation; Hardangerjøkulen; Norway; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : This study presents a detailed investigation into the evolution of sedimentary landforms over an ablation season at Blåisen, an outlet of the Hardangerjøkulen Icecap, Norway. The two visits to Blåisen, one each side of the ablation season, allowed the preservation and evolution of the landforms to be studied. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Behaviour of Boron Isotopes During Magmatic Degassing and Application to B-Rich Volcanic Glassfrom Lesbos, Greece

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Konstantinos Thomaidis; [2017]
    Nyckelord :boron isotopes; volcanic glass; SIMS; magmatic degassing; Lesbos Island; borisotoper; vulkaniskt glas; SIMS; magmatisk avgasning; Lesbos;

    Sammanfattning : Boron is a fluid mobile trace element and is routinely employed as a tracer of slab-derived fluids in subduction zones since the heavy isotope (11B) preferentially partitions into the fluid phase during slab dehydration. However, it has been shown experimentally that boron isotopes (expressed as δ11B) can fractionate by up to several permil (‰) during subsequent magmatic evolution and degassing at high temperature, calling into doubt the fidelity of boron isotopes in volcanic glass as accurate tracers of slab degassing.
