  1. 1. Microstructures and Compressive Strength of Lake Ice in Sweden A structural Documentation and Compressive Strength Analysis of Lake Ice Cores from Uppsala, using the SonReb Method

    Master-uppsats, Göteborgs universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Julia Ladefoged; [2023-08-18]
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Lake ice have been utilized by humans through centuries, as transportation routes and recreational activities to name a few (Sharma et al., 2019). Despite our frequent usage of lake ice there is a lack of extensive knowledge of it. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Methane Sulphonic Acid in East Antarctic Coastal Firn and Ice Cores and Its Relationship with Chlorophyll-a and Sea Ice Extent in the Southern Ocean

    Master-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Emma Nilsson; [2022]
    Nyckelord :methane sulphonic acid; firn cores; sea ice proxy; marine primary productivity; Fimbul Ice Shelf; Dronning Maud Land; metansulfonsyra; firnkärnor; havsis-proxy; marin primärproduktion; Fimbulisen; Dronning Maud Land;

    Sammanfattning : The seasonal retreat of sea ice in the austral spring and summer around Antarctica has a significant effect on phytoplankton activity, mainly due to light availability, meltwater input of dissolved iron, and surface water stratification. Phytoplankton produce dimethylsulfoniopropionate, the precursor to the climate-cooling gas dimethyl sulphide, which is ventilated to the atmosphere and oxidised to methane sulphonic acid (MSA). 3. 3. Drilling for time: ice cores and the synchronization of temporalities in glaciology, 1935-1978

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Avdelningen för idé- och lärdomshistoria

    Författare :Erik Isberg; [2018]
    Nyckelord :ice cores; Arctic science; temporalities; Environmental humanities; climate modelling; history of science; Willi Dansgaard; Anthropocene; synchronization; temporal regimes; Cultural Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Since their emergence in the 1950’s, ice cores have ventured from being scientific objects of concern to a limited number of glaciologists to becoming one of the most iconic representations of anthropogenic climate change. This thesis aims to historicize the way in which ice cores became enrolled into climate discourse, particularly emphasizing the production and representation of temporalities of the global climate that the ice cores made possible. 4. 4. Multiradionuclide evidence for an extreme solar proton event around 2610 BP

    Master-uppsats, Lunds universitet/Geologiska institutionen

    Författare :Martin Paschal Ohare; [2017]
    Nyckelord :cosmic-rays; cosmogenic radionuclides; NGRIP; GRIP; solar proton event; SPE; Earth and Environmental Sciences;

    Sammanfattning : Recently it has been confirmed that extreme solar proton events (SPE) can lead to significantly increased production of cosmogenic radionuclides (Mekhaldi et al. 2015). The evidence of these events can be recorded in tree rings (14C) and ice cores (10Be, 36Cl). LÄS MER

  5. 5. Grundämnessammansättning i lössjordar på norra halvklotet

    Kandidat-uppsats, Uppsala universitet/Institutionen för geovetenskaper

    Författare :Anna Oskar; [2017]
    Nyckelord :dust; loess; geochemistry; handheld XRF; Greenland; stoft; lössjord; geokemi; handhållen XRF; Grönland;

    Sammanfattning : The content of atmospheric dust in ice cores from Greenland varies with changes in climate, but the exact relationship is yet unknown. To determine this correlation, the source of the Greenland dust must be known. There are several hypotheses on the location of the source, but no current methods have been sufficient in determining the exact origin. LÄS MER
