    Sammanfattning : In this paper, I argue that novels of the same genre may communicate with each other, spanning time and space to recontextualize the realities of books that both preceeded and came after one another. I use Cormac McCarthy's Blood Meridian (1985) and Hernan Diaz' In the Distance (2018) to illustrate my theory, focusing on the issues of masculinity presentet in both novels. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Dans ce mémoire, nous exposons les stéréotypes de genre dans trois romans de l’auteure àsuccès Virginie Grimaldi, à savoir Le premier jour du reste de ma vie (Grimaldi 2015), Quand nos souvenirs viendront danser (Grimaldi 2019) et Et que ne durent que les moments doux (Grimaldi 2020). En analysant les romans d’un point de vue sociocritique et en mettant l’accent sur la critique littéraire féministe, nous montrons que les romans contiennent cinq stéréotypes : l’idée que les femmes sont soumises et les hommes autoritaires, que les femmes sont inférieures et les hommes supérieurs, que les femmes sont émotives et les hommes rationnels, que les femmes sont passives et les hommes actifs, et que le mariage et la maternité sont la seule vraie voie vers le bonheur pour les femmes.     Sammanfattning : This essay is a contribution to literary history that explores Edgar Allan Poe’s criticism of the transcendentalist movement and its key figure Ralph Waldo Emerson through an analysis of the short stories “The Fall of the House of Usher” and “Never Bet the Devil Your Head.” By using genre criticism to define aspects of the Gothic genre, Poe’s criticism through Gothic tropes is studied together with an intertextual reading of the short stories and historical literary objects such as letters, magazines and literary reviews that details his views on transcendentalism.
