Sammanfattning: Reuse can have several meanings and be defined in different ways. It is a concept that has been used for centuries in the construction and demolition industry and has always been important but has gained new relevance in our time. The definition of the concept is broad and can be applied to different construction projects, which is why we have chosen to focus on reuse in projects and construction. The possibility of reusing building components is of great importance to the construction industry, and in a society that is constantly evolving and improving, it is necessary to renovate and build new. Considering reuse already in the planning phase can affect both the lifespan and sustainability of buildings and materials. At the same time, it entails new challenges and factors that must be taken into account. So what is the most effective way to build? Is it by utilizing existing resources or by using energy to create something new? This is the central topic of our research on reuse. Our thesis aims to examine the benefits and drawbacks of reuse. We pose questions regarding the preservation of cultural heritage buildings and the value of reuse for all buildings, with economic aspects in mind. During our investigation, we have found that reuse is a phenomenon that is relevant today, although there are concepts and theories that have not been discussed previously. Reuse has indeed been used for centuries in new construction, but it has not had the same value and focus as it does today. Therefore, we find it interesting to compare the advantages and disadvantages in order to draw conclusions. We have chosen to study the issue of reuse of cultural heritage buildings and have specifically focused on a case: the "Spritfabriken" project. We selected this case because it is an ongoing project during the 2020s, with a detailed plan established in 2013, making it relevant to current societal development. We have utilized document studies, qualitative interviews, and overall qualitative methods since it is a construction project under investigation, which excludes quantitative methods. Some of the conclusions presented in the thesis are that reuse is the future and will be used in various types of projects. It involves energy savings, preservation of natural resources and materials, which are crucial factors for why it is not always necessary to build from scratch. We believe that this type of research is important for our future urban planning as it can facilitate making difficult decisions and convey knowledge to future project managers and urban planners. The conclusions we have reached are that reuse is not economically feasible in all situations. Reuse is best when carried out by municipalities and large societal actors such as the state, as for private actors, it becomes more challenging to cover the costs without government support.
