Sammanfattning: The purpose of our study is to contribute to increased knowledge with the hope of producing arguments as to why employers should invest in mental health by investigating the questions: 1) How does employee personality relate to the experience that it is important that their employers invest in mental health? 2) How does personality relate to the experience of overall well-being? The results are based on 365 responses to our survey containing a personality test according to the Big five theory, an item about overall well-being according to the Cantril Scale and items about what the participants think is important in the workplace. Our results showed a negative correlation between neuroticism and well-being and a positive correlation between extraversion and well-being as well as conscientiousness and well-being. Analysis of the results shows that there is a significant connection in our sample between higher values of neuroticism and openness, and the experience that it is important for the employer to invest in mental health. According to our research, this appears to be new knowledge as we have not been able to find other scientific material that has investigated this connection. The knowledge that our study has generated can be implemented in various ways, for example by employers investing in mental health to attract employees who score high in neuroticism and openness.
