Sammanfattning: Identity and being sami - a qualitative content analysis of sami people's stories about identity The aim of this study has been to analyze sami people’s stories about identity in Samefolket journal. Our intent was to find out if historical events was being portrated in their stories and to analyze what is including or excluding for sami identity. By doing a content analysis of 14 articles we found patterns from which we created categories to easier study our material. We found that historical events did have an impact on sami people’s stories about identity, which led to the conclusion to use a postcolonial theory on our analyze. The term stigma, in addition to postcolonial theory, has been used to deeper analyze how the stigmatization of the socially vulnerable appears and how it could lead to feelings of shame. Throughout the process we have been able to get a glimpse of sami people’s complex history and what effect it has on them to this day. We have come to the conclusion that the colonization of Sápmi has created different groups in the sami community. These groups have in turn lead to a desirable image of a superior sami, an image many sami people struggle to fulfill. This superior sami has characteristics that are both including and excluding in regards to the sami identity. Furthermore, we found symbols and language to play an important role to either encourage fellowship or lead to alienation in the sami community.
